Night 0
The official registration and meet and greet on Staten Island.
Amy and Matt decided to come and see the madness after a few hesitant moments of looking at the hunk of steel parked outside their flat and asking a few key questions like, “So is it going to blow up?” and “Does it actually run?”. Truthfully I don’t know that I would have gotten in the thing to drive through NY traffic. One vision of us breaking down in the Holland tunnel was almost enough to send me packing. But they were great sports and we all piled in and headed for the bridge. A “short” drive later we pulled in to the hotel to cheers from our comrades as they viewed the fox in all its glory. The entire hotel lot had been taken over by cars decorated with every theme imaginable and their proud owners drinking beer, slapping each other on the back, and admiring each others handy work. There was the 'jingle benz' equipped with lawn ornaments on top, a 'mad max' themed Plymouth, a short bus with a keg tap out the back and 46 cases of red bull lining the floors, a black firebird dubbed ‘the shite rider’ with fitting blinking track lights along the front, a Honda accord with a driving range on the roof, and those are just a few. It was awesome! Ha ha. Needless to say, we all had a blast and Amy and Matt were about ready to call in to work for a week just so they could come along. Everyone was really cool and laid back and ready for a crazy week of adventure. We left around 11 to head back for our last night in Brooklyn and some much needed sleep as we assumed (correctly) we wouldn’t be getting much in the coming week
